Symantec provides security, backup, and availability solutions. The company went public in 1989, for me it's like a century ago, because the company made in IPO before I was born. Anyway, the price at IPO was $0.72, in 2004 it went up to $31.48 and this record remains unbeaten. The stock lost 20% YTD. $NLOK, NortonLifeLock Inc. / 1440 The biggest issue of the company is that the competition is too tough for it. The revenues are going down and more to come, because LTM revenue is more than 7% down (fiscal year ends the closest Friday to March, 31). So, if we talk about the competition, the trading multiples for Symantec and comparable companies are the following: As you can see from the table above, Symantec is below the market average. I think that some of comparable companies are not doing the same, but still they close to that business or have a branch in security and backup services. We can see the company Fortinet, their stock is going up more than 25% YTD. But as you can see, the multiples show that the company is hugely overbought. Another interesting point about Semantec is that the company is able to keep the EBITDA margin: last year EBITDA margin was around 28.3%, LTM EBITDA margin is 28.2%. It means that even in this tough market and declining the revenues management is still able to control the margins. Moreover, unlevered free cash flow is growing: the company ended FY2015 with around $963M in unlevered free cash flow, the same metric LTM is more than $1,119M, which is a huge step forward. If we compare the margins among the competitors, we'll get the following table: As we can see from this table, Symantec's margins are very close to the market average, and they are higher than Fontinet has. As soon as both of them are from the same field, I think that Symantec is a better decision for investors. Symantec provides 3% dividend yield, which high enough to consider buying them. I strongly believe in the company's management, because they are keeping business efficiency on a high level even with declining revenue. What do you think about cyber security field?
