Every now and then I just like to write about companies I love. When I sat down to do this, the first one that popped into my mind was Hasbro (NASDAQ: HAS.) Sure, they have their warts like every other huge multinational, and it’s possible they have some super shady, Apple level corruption going on with their manufacturing process, but I’m going to go with the “ignorance is bliss” mantra on this one. Hasbro helped define my childhood, and for that I am grateful. Transformers speak for themselves. I thought the recent movies were straight up dog doo doo, but the toys! And the original animated movie! Those were amazing. You’ve got to have a pretty dope product to make a young boy want to grow up to be a car that transforms into a robot, but that was how cool they were. I could go on and on about the toys they produced, but I'm even more in debt to their iconic board game, Trivial Pursuit. This was the game that first kindled my love of board games, which would carry on into adulthood, giving me equal parts intense joy and frustration with girls. I’ll never forget being in high school and playing another Hasbro game, Scrabble, and being gobsmacked by how bad my girlfriend was. She just wanted to have a good time. I was hung up on the fact that she was only making three and four letter words and didn’t seem to be trying very hard. A wiser man (who would have got laid way more often) would have let it pass, but I pretty much let it ruin my night. I take board game seriously and I like when other people do too. Regardless, I have spent infinite hours playing with Hasbro’s toys and games and just wanted to give them a shoutout. If you’re trading based on your love of companies, you could do worse than this magical company.
