ReutersRiding the wave: Republican Florida Governor Rick Scott celebrates his re-electionRepublicans had a very, very good day Tuesday. How good? Consider these surprises: In deep-blue Maryland, GOP businessmanLarry Hogan beat Anthony Brown, the state’s Democratic lieutenant governor after an unexpectedly close gubernatorial race. In Kansas, Republican governor Sam Brownback survived a challenge from Democrat Paul Davis after alienating some of his fellow Republicans. And Rick Scott narrowly hung on in Florida, eking out a win over Democrat Charlie Crist and keeping the governor’s mansion for the GOP. In Congress, it wasn’t just the Senate where Republicans rode a wave. ABC News was projecting early Wednesday morning that Republicans would pick up as many as 18 seats in the House of Representatives. Republicans were expected to keep the House in the first place. But that kind of boost would give them something to crow about. But don’t forget the Senate. Republicans needed six seats to win back control. At about midnight Tuesday, they’d picked up seven. Republicans were on track to bag at least one more when Louisianans go back to the polls for the Dec. 6 runoff. Alaska’s race, meanwhile, still has to be called. http://www.marketwatch.com/
