I got a lot of blow-back on Seeking Alpha for making the argument that an Apple internet TV package was a dumb idea. The company could not innovate any further than what other cable services have already done with their 'skinny packages' which are low priced, paired down versions of a cable package. The firm was trying to create a cheaper bundle. This couldn't work because the cable companies don't want to earn less money. Netflix already offers an amazing bundle of older content and original shows. Apple had to create a live package or it would be stepping on Netflix's toes. The problem is millennials hate linear TV shows. They don't value the content they get on linear TV as much as the shows they watch on YouTube and Netflix. Apple has no ability to create its own original programming. It's good at making hardware and software, not content. Tim Cook made a smart decision shuttering this terrible idea. I think Tim Cook is a great manager, but not a great inventor of new products. Based on this skill set, he wouldn't have been able to execute on this task. Jon Ive is a great designer of products which wouldn't have been necessary with this Apple TV service. Tim Cook utilized his managing skills when he decided it was a bad idea.
