It’s just funny that he is trying to pose as a tax reformer… Trevor Noah pointed out last night that while Trump’s latest excuse for not releasing his returns is that he’s being audited, Nixon released his during an audit. So Trump is even more crooked than Nixon. Hee hee. “This (Washington Post) is owned as a toy by Jeff Bezos, who controls Amazon. Amazon is getting away with murder tax-wise. He’s using The Washington Post for power so that the politicians in Washington don’t tax Amazon like they should be taxed,” Trump said. “He’s using The Washington Post … for political purposes to save Amazon in terms of taxes and in terms of antitrust.” Trump telling a lie? Well golly. Amazon actually lobbies for a more consistent sales tax collection regime. Trump would use the power of the Presidency to go after his enemies in ways that Nixon would say “Whoa, come on, dude, you can’t do that.” Amazon is a cut-throat operation with minimal commitment to community and society as a whole. They have used heave-handed tactics to avoid paying and collecting taxes. Bezos and his company represent all that the liberal wing has been railing against, so please try to avoid knee-jerk defense of them just because Trump. their distribution centers are modern day sweat shops (quite literally: in one notorious example, rather than pay to install AC in a distribution center where the temperature inside was more than 120 degrees Fahrenheit, they kept a couple of ambulances outside to treat employees suffering heat stroke.) To me, the bigger thing that this points out is that a thin-skinned bully like Trump probably can’t resist using the power of the Presidency to get back at his enemies, real or perceived. Monopoly abuse is a legitimate fear but Amazon has plowed almost all its earnings back into growth so it doesn’t have any kind of Apple style billions and billions of profits stashed overseas. Not yet anyway, last quarter they started tuning up the cash machine. Trump added: “He thinks I’ll go after him for antitrust. Because he’s got a huge antitrust problem because he’s controlling so much. Amazon is controlling so much of what they are doing.”
