The history of cinema is chock-full of iconic moments, but it’s not often that one finds a compilation as comprehensive as “100 Years/100 Shots,” by filmmaker Jacob T. Swinney. An official selection of the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, the short feature is a journey through the past century in film and consists of Swinney’s picks for the most memorable shot from each year. While many of the selections are among the most recognizable in cinema — and likely identifiable by even the most casual of film buffs — others were chosen for their part in pioneering a style, pushing the limits of censorship, or defining a genre. The result is a moving tribute to the silver screen and an intriguing look back at the evolution of filmmaking.
