Just when you thought Nadler et al. would let the RussiaGate debacle die a slow death of nothing-burgers, the House Judiciary Committee voted along party lines Thursday to authorize subpoenas for documents and testimony from a dozen current and former Trump administration officials related to the panel’s investigation into alleged obstruction by President Trump. The vote for the issuance of the subpoenas was not unexpected. The subpoena list includes Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, in addition to some of Mueller’s key witnesses: former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and former White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter. As The Hill reports, the committee also voted to authorize subpoenas for documents and testimony related to the Trump administration’s immigration policies, amid massive outrage by Democrats over conditions in detention facilities at the U.S. southern border. The Hill also points out that the vote took place after a contentious markup Thursday during which Republicans and Democrats sparred over the setup of special counsel Robert Mueller’s impending testimony and the immigration crisis.
