Penn Jilette once said 'Two things have always been true about human beings. One, the world is always getting better. Two, the people living at that time think it`s getting worse.” Millennials or Generation Y are defined as those born between 1981 and 2000. Here are some of the negative things I have observed with this generation. The Bad Parental Control Helicopter parents plan their entire kid’s lives. Making mistakes are a big no-no, and if they do make mistakes, the parents will always be there to bail the kids out.Since birth what we eat, who we play with, where we sleep and where we work has been printed on a nice little "life card." Parents want the best for their kids because they probably grew up in a generation without adequate guidance. They end up being overprotective and create a generation of young adults unable to think and fend for themselves without an authority figure. This creates the victim mentality and a lack of accountability. When trouble hits, life seems unfair and they feel like the world is against them. They might ask “Why me? What did I do wrong to deserve this?” Everybody Is A Winner Trophies are for everybody, even losers. Nowadays you can even get a “trophy” for participation so the other kids won’t feel left out. “There are no losers” they’ll say, but when kids grow up they find out the hard way that there are real winners and losers in life. It’s hard feeling like a winner when there’s no gas left in your car and you are short 50 cents to take the bus to your job interview. It’s hard feeling like a winner when you come home to your wife and tell her that you can’t afford to take her out for your anniversary. Growing Pains Kids these days miss out on the growth from growing pains. The growth that usually comes from pain and suffering and negative emotions. The growth that comes from being an underdog and beating the odds to succeed. And we weren't told to walk it off, or to quit being a pussy, etc. Saying this to a kid would be constitute bullying and their parents might sue you. As a result, they have no idea of the rewards of hard work and are afraid of rejection. When they do face rejection and failure in adulthood, which is inevitable, they feel like the world is against them. Life seems unfair. They get depressed. No, life is not unfair. This is just reality and you are finally seeing the world for the first time. Me Mentality You are told that you are very special and that you deserve the very best in life. Just try your best and the world will be kind to you. Never mind the fact that there are billions of other people on this earth competing for the exact same resources that you want. Wake up! It was never about you in the first place. You are not special and you are completely replaceable. You are only as valuable as the value you can bring to others. If you bring nothing to the table, you are a leech plain and simple. If you are a leech, then you are worthless and nobody will like you. Nobody likes you because you are selfish. And selfish people will never be successful.
