In the company’s annual report, drought and global weather change are among a list of business risks faced by the company. Chipotle explained that volatility or long term change in weather pattern could have significant impact on price or availability of its ingredients. And if the cost jumped, they may choose to suspend offering some of its menus such as guacamole or salsa. But according to Chipotle spokesman, this is only routine risk disclosure. There is no significant risk in the near future. But California, which is a major source of avocado crop, is currently facing severe drought. And the company predicts that the prices increase is more likely scenario than shortages.
