Philips (NYSE: PHG) will be unrolling a brand new kind of carpet at the upcoming Lightfair International trade show in New York, according to CNet, with a carpet laced with LED lights. The product, titled the "Luminous Carpet," has a layer of lights underneath the material and can be used to illuminate any shape or message and is available in a wide array of styles. According to CNet, Philips teamed up with flooring manufacturer Desso to make the product and is specifically marketing to airports and businesses, with technology available to direct passengers to their gates or give out other important information. Phillips assures the carpet are very durable, able to handle spills and heavy traffic. The idea for this illuminating product is nothing new, CNet reported, with plans for the LED carpet in the making for more than two years. Tested in multiple European cities already, the Luminous Carpet may be seen in the United States fairly soon.
