Chemical giant DuPont DD has announced a new 3D anti-counterfeiting film to make the packaging industry better equipped at preventing duplications. The company has developed the innovative film using its own imaging technology, which facilitates the integration of anti-counterfeiting features directly with the product’s label. DuPont will formally showcase the product at the drupa 2016 trade fair to be held in Germany from May 31–June 10. Existing anti-counterfeiting features on packaging materials are widespread and now easily replicated. The company has applied a patented DuPont imaging process to create an effective film with a differentiated 3D look. The film contains a unique side dot verification design that validates complete 3D imaging with a red security dot which is easily visible for quick authentication of the product. Holograms are generally always visible on the packaging, but this new film is made of holograms that disappear when viewed from an incorrect angle. If customers require, an additional transparent layer can be constructed, which would make the bar code or other details visible from certain angles even if the film is placed over it on the packaging. The company also offers additional field safety. A semi-covert image may be visible when a flashlight is directed over the film to help brand protectors and enforcement agents to quickly authenticate products on the field. These features, as well as the complexity involved in replicating the film, will ensure prevention of counterfeiting. The company will reveal more of the film’s features and its optimum utilization technique in the packaging industry at the fair. The film’s ability to enhance brand protection and its uniformity with the company’s brand building programs will be further elaborated. DuPont looks to feature several other technologies at the trade fair. The company has developed technology to enhance quality in the printing and packaging industry through its Cyrel TD System, Tyvek Graphics and DuPont Digital Printing. Its Cyrel Easy technology that makes flexoraphic plate-making easier and more striking will also be featured. Revenues from DuPont’s Protection Solutions segment fell 8% year over year to $729 million in first-quarter 2016. Operating earnings rose 5% to $176 million as cost reductions and improved utilization at the Chambers Works plant more than offset unfavorable currency impact and lower volumes. DuPont currently holds a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). Other well-ranked companies in the chemicals industry include Innophos Holdings Inc IPHS, Innospec Inc. IOSP and Koninklijke DSM N.V. RDSMY, all sporting a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy). Want the latest recommendations from Zacks Investment Research? Today, you can download 7 Best Stocks for the Next 30 Days.
